 "Robot control" 2009-11-27
By G. Warren (Idaho)
I use this stick as a robot control via a computer interface. It has performed very well, and is everything I needed to do the job. The left stick holds position which is perfect, and the ability to map the buttons in nice. It is large, which for me is a great improvement over the small thumbstick controllers.

I would recommend this product to my friends

 "Near-perfect flight stick" 2009-11-24
By A. Dent (Minas Anor, GD)
The T-flight Hotas Stick is designed to connect via the USB port and work with either a PC or a PS3. So far, we've tried it on a PS3 only with the excellent IL - 2 Sturmovik - Birds of Prey and with Tom Clancy's HAWX.

I will discuss our experience within the context above.

PACKAGING AND SETUP

Not much to complain in this area. the 'instrument' comes nicely packed and it was easy to get it out of the box.

It's initially separated into 2 modules: the joystick/rudder and the throttle and it's possible to use the joystick only. It took us a couple of minutes to figure out how to fit the 2 pieces together but, in the end, it was no big deal. It comes down to tightening a couple of screws with the supplied tool that is stored safely for future use at the bottom of the stick.

The only other adjustments other than 'programming' would be to 'block' the rudder function on the joystick by tightening another screw so that it's only available on the throttle and to set the proper handle resistance via a dial located on the bottom of the joystick module.

Using the stick with the PS3 is as simple as setting the USB selector button to PS3 and plugging the USB connector into one of PS3's ports, then starting the game.

OPERATION

From a PS3, point of view, I am happy to see that all the Six-Axis buttons, including the PS are mapped on the joystick and the throttle and, most of the time, they are clearly labelled. The main differences are of course, this controller being wired and its lacking rumble and motion sensitivity. To avoid complications, it is possible to start your PS3 with the joystick as the only control and then start your game and operate everything this way.

The manual states that, once you begin using it within a game, the stick will calibrate itself after you make a few moves. We haven't experienced calibration issues so it must be true.

The 8 ft. USB chord may be sufficient for most but it wasn't for us. We have a rather large screen and we play from 8-9 ft. away. The AmazonBasics USB 2.0 A-Male to A-Female Extension Cable (9.8 Feet / 3.0 Meters) took care of that problem.

My 12 yr. old kid feels that the games are more responsive when using the PS3's own motion-sensitive controller. This is probably the case but what this device provides is some level of realism. It's more realistic to pilot a plane with a stick and a throttle than by tilting and shaking a controller. After a little practice, he now prefers the Stick to the PS3 controller.

MY RATING

I found the T-flight Hotas Stick to be a great way to play flight simulation games and, for the price, it can't get much better than this. I am happy with this purchase and so are my kids. It's 5 stars which, in Amazon translation means "we love it".

PROGRAMMING

We tried it, just for fun and it turns out to be quite easy even though not exactly needed for the games we are currently playing. It's basically a 4-step process that would allow you to:

- switch buttons

- switch axes between themselves

- switch the directions of the same axis

It's done by enabling the 'manual' mode by pressing a button, press and release the mapping button, press the button or direction you want to program, press and release the button or direction you are placing the function. For all of the above there is visual feedback of LEDs flashing.

Like I said, it can be done but it can get complicated quickly. Thankfully, it's easy to erase your manual preset and to return to the factory defaults.

"Best Flight Stick I've Had To Date" 2009-11-16
By gump92139
My first flight stick (or joystick) was the Microsoft Force Feedback Pro which was a very good stick - it had some 'slop' in it which eventually got so bad that it was no longer tolerable. It was rugged and comfortable to use, but Microsoft quit making them & also quit supporting them in many flight Sims & newer games. I then had two Saitek Cyborg Evo Joysticks. The first one developed a problem after 11 months with little use, when it went out of calibration and the rudder output stuck in 50% left rudder position and couldn't be fixed by recalibration so it was replaced under 1-year warranty. Within 10 months switch #5 quit working on the second or replacement joystick so at this point I decided to look for a different manufacturers joystick because by now I had lost faith in Saitek being able to make a reliable joystick. I am seventy years old and I take good care of my equipment - I don't abuse my joysticks so if they don't last for me I doubt that they would last for anyone. I searched Amazon reading joystick reviews and came across the T-flight Hotas Stick Pc PS3. This joystick had the features I wanted and was rated very high - almost 5 stars even though at the time it had only five reviews - so I ordered it.

This joystick can be used with either a PC or PlayStation 3. It has a PC-PS3 switch so you can select which one you use.

It came with the throttle and joystick separated so I decided to try it this way for a while. I've had this joystick now since the first week in August 2009 and I really like this joystick.

PRO:

1. It comes in two parts, the throttle & joystick, separated by an interconnecting cable approximately 18" between them - but, they can be mounted together as one assembly if desired as the necessary wrench is included and the throttle & joystick are designed to be mounted together as one unit. I like them separated as it is more realistic - with the throttle on my left and the joystick on my right.

2. Very simple to connect to your computer. You connect the joystick to the USB port on your computer via the integral USB cable & connector - that's it! No separate power supply or adapter is required because this joystick gets its power from your computer through the USB cable/connection.

3. No installation CD included or required as once you connect this joystick to your computer it is automatically recognized and calibrated - a plug & play joystick - they don't get any simpler than this!

4. The throttle & joystick are very comfortable to hold & use. Together they have twelve programmable switches which are very easy to use on both the throttle & joystick. There are four programmable switches on the joystick module and eight on the throttle module. The joystick can be twisted left-right for the rudder control - the throttle module has a slider switch which can also be used for rudder control if so desired. Also there is an eight-position hat switch located on top of the joystick - this is normally used for 'looking around' in flight simulator programs. Both modules are quite robust & heavy enough so they don't move around much unless you really give them some pushing around.

5. So far this joystick is performing excellent & a great buy for the money.

CON:

1. None that I know of so far - except maybe it would be nice to have the interconnecting cable between the joystick & throttle modules be longer & have connectors that can be unplugged in case of damage they could be replaced. Also I'd like to be able to move them a little further apart.

UNKNOWN:

1. How long will this last before something goes wrong? Only time will tell.

"it's a microphone. For gaming. And it works." 2009-11-25
By Gadget Girl (Alexandria, VA)
What else is there to say about a wireless microphone? Well, it doesn't suffer from interference problems with the (large number of) other beaming devices around our house. It lets me know exactly how good a singer I am on Guitar Hero (not very). I don't blame the mic, though, it works fine.

"Works great with Rock Band!" 2009-11-18
By Terry Mesnard (Bellevue, NE)
One thing that happens constantly at my place is Rock Band parties. One thing that hampers these fun parties are cords. I can't stand them and what inadvertently happens is a web or cords that (sometimes drunk) people have to manuever around. It's not exactly the best experience at times. When I heard that Logitech was bringing a cordless mic to the party, I got excited for a couple reasons. Of course there's the aforementioned cord issue but also that Logitech makes some great (albeit usually expensive) products. The Wireless Microphone fits right in that same area.

Setup is a breeze. The package comes with two main pieces, the microphone and the holder/USB receiver. Plugging the USB receiver into the Xbox 360 provides you with the wireless capabilities but also doubles as a place to hold your microphone when not being used. It takes AA batteries which is good and bad. I really enjoy products that have a built in rechargable battery, but this also allows quick and easy replacement if you're in the middle of a party and don't have time to recharge.

The microphone works very well. It's more like a full-sized microphone that I'm used to at Karaoke bars and has a nice, heavy heft to it. It picks up your voice a lot better than the mics that come with either Rock Band or Guitar Hero and the sound quality it picks up is also much clearer. I even used it on my PC and recorded some voice tracks to test the quality and it works wonderfully. Ultimately, you get what you pay for and the Logitech microphone excels at both a more maneuverable option and as a great quality microphone. Very much recommended.

Bought this mic as soon as it became available, pricey but totaly worth it.

Bought other wireless mics since for rock band "tug of war" sing challenges, threw them out.

Although this can be twice the price, other wireless mics for xbox wont connect or have terrible feedback.

spend the cash, get the good stuff.

"Great sound quality, easy setup!" 2009-10-22
By Jennifer Ray (Nashville, TN United States)
Having recently become interested in online karaoke sites, I was more than intrigued by the Logitech Wireless Microphone and knew I had to have one.

I was at first disappointed that it uses batteries rather than being rechargeable. Then I realized that I actually prefer the batteries so that if you run out of juice while using the microphone, you can quickly change the batteries and keep going rather than having to wait until the device recharges. Plus, I can use rechargeable batteries in it, which satisfies my wish nicely.

The sound quality is just stellar. I've been more than pleased with the quality at which it records the vocals and it seems to do a fine job of not picking up background noise in my home (cats...)

The setup is a snap. There is no software to install, simply plug the wireless receiver into a USB port on your computer and you are ready to go! Well, there is a very quick driver install, but Windows had no trouble finding those quickly. The setup is practically invisible to the user.

For my needs, the Logitech Wireless Microphone is more than perfect. I highly recommend it to those looking for a good quality wireless microphone for their PC.

 "I'm wired!...wait...I'm not wired!" 2009-10-15
By Celeste (Louisiana)
We are a rhythm game home. We play Rock Band, we play Guitar Hero, and in the days of olde, we played Karaoke Revolution. This microphone is a bit on the pricy side, but because it works for so many consoles and so many different games, I think the price is worth it, if you want to go wireless.

When we play Rock Band or Guitar Hero, it's usually with a house full of mildly drunk friends, so if there is a sensitivity difference between this microphone and a corded microphone, we couldn't tell the difference. It's nice to have one less cord draped across the living room, but the really great thing about the cordless microphone is I don't have to constantly ask people to not hold the microphone by the cord and swing it around during the lyrically lacking parts of the songs. (Yes, people actually often do this.) Not only was that bad for the microphone, but also bad for my nerves. The lack of an additional cord is especially nice when playing the Beatles Rock Band; it's like a spider web in the house with those three part harmonies. That being said, I don't plan on spending the money for two more of these to become totally lyrically cordless, but the cordless will be the first choice microphone in our house.

I got this keyboard to type faster when going online with my PS 3 web browser. I got it after comparing it to the logitech full wirelss keyboard. Overall, it was cheaper but it is really very small and using it is like typing on a smart phone keypad! Also there is no back light on the keys which makes it harder to see in dim light room. Now I am not using it that much. I guess I would not buy it again.

"Great for typing, bad at everything else." 2009-10-11
By Jason W. Mazeski (Orange County, NY)
I was pretty psyched to see this come out for the PS3. I do a lot of typing / talking on the PS3 and thought this would be a great addition.

After it arrived I soon learned that:

1. It significantly adds weight to the controller and makes it "top heavy"

2. It is quite awkward to type with this and still feel like you have control of the PS3 controller.

3. The keys are very small and typo's are a huge reality for anyone with normal sized fingers.

I'd say that if you are strictly interested in typing to someone on the PS3, buy a bluetooth keyboard!!! Once this thing is attached to the controller, it pretty much makes it useless for anything else.

I had my previous one for over 3 years with no problems and gave it to a friend after purchasing my new one. If you're on a budget this is a great purchase. I've been using this wheel for almost 6 months now and its given me hours of fun. I use it mostly with GT4. It takes some getting used to but once you get the hang of it you can literally shave seconds off your best times! Once you play any driving game with this wheel, you'll never go back to the analog controllers. The force feedback is awesome. It really adds a new dimension to the whole game playing experience. Feeling the tires losing their road grip during turns helps you compensate well before you get into a spin! An excellent product overall! Highly recommended for all racing enthusiasts!!

"GOOD BANG FOR THE BUCK" 2009-10-04
By G. Gibbs (U.S.A.)
There are many well written reviews about this keyboard so I won't repeat what you have previously read. I had the Saitek II keyboard and loved it. Once you have an illuminated keyboard there is no going back. I'll be the first one to admit that I am hard on a keyboard. Spilled drinks, cigarette ashes,(I quit) food crumbs etc. The Saitek took all of this abuse but after 4 years of heavy use the space-bar key broke. There was no fixing it. Having had a good buying experience I ordered the Saitek III. This keyboard is very impressive looking with many bells & whistles that you may not need. It does take up a lot of real estate on your desk top so make sure you have the room. It's about 6 inches longer than the compact Saitek II so if space is an issue you may not want this. Most desk tops should accomadate this without a problem. The most noticeable difference is the "Feel" of the keyboard. The Saitek II keys feel hard with short strokes. The Saitek III keys feel much softer allowing faster typing speeds. Your fingers float over the keys as opposed to banging them. Bottom Line: This is one impressive keyboard that I highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.

"Sweet keyboard for late night gamers." 2009-08-10
By P. Bateman
Pros: The LEDs are very bright and easy to see and the dispersal of light is very even despite what some reviews I read said. The color options are nice, but I really only use the red and blue and the magenta and pink are almost the same color so it's really more like 4 colors. The shortcut tabs are turning out to be more useful than I thought they would be. It's nice having the ports in the top right of the board because my speaker cord is very short, as is the cord for my stereophones. Volume control is really nice when using headphones, but make sure you download the drivers so the level bar changes or it's useless.

Cons: The palm rest is nearly useless, it's only like an inch long and my palm doesnt even really rest on it while gaming. The only reason I've kept it on is for aesthetics. The plastic coating on the volume control has started to bubble up after only a month.

Other Comments: Over all I've been really pleased with this keyboard. I love having it lit up and it matches all the LEDs in my computer case. The palm rest is oh so useless. They tried to match the sleek design wth the rest of the board, which I can respect, but it's so small it does nothing. I also would have preferred buttons for the LED control and volume, but that's more of a personal taste as I hate touch interfaces (lazy design in my opinion). It's not a big deal, but the buttons are a little flat and that may bother some people, but it's fine for me. One last thing to note is that there are 2 adjustments for height. One give the board like 2 degrees tilt and the other adds 2-3 more degrees to that. So it doesn't really tilt up much more than flat, matching the ergonomics of the palm rest -_- If you want a LED lit board this one is a very good buy, though more for gamers.

 "Really nice keyboard" 2009-06-20
By Peter Marocco (Fort Lauderdale, FL)
This is a well built product and I have no complaints about it. I have already recommended it to a friend.

My usage is really basic. I wanted a keyboard that I could use at night without turning on the room lights and this works very well. Not a gamer, so I can't comment on that usage. The keys have a nice feel to them. The keyboard has three colors that are easy to adjust in intensity. It has some keys on each side that control some basic browser functions, along with opening some apps. Some of that is nice, but does make the keyboard wider. My desk is big enough for this not to be an issue with me, but I do need to stay aware of these keys to avoid opening an app. Also, as others have noted, this version III keeps the color selection on reboot.

Works with the new PS3 Slim!

The most affordable infrared (IR) to Bluetooth converter for the PS3 has more features than other converters that cost almost twice as much. Most importantly, its firmware can be upgraded, so a PS3 firmware upgrade wont leave with an expensive paper weight.

This device will easily make your PS3 compatible with all IR universal remote controls.

Features:

- Supports all 51 PS3 commands, and an additional Discrete Off macro that will power off the PS3 from any scenario (game, movie, XMB) with a single IR command. No need to stand there holding the remote while the PS3 powers off.

- Upgrading the firmware is easy with our new utility tool. There are no drivers to install and the application is a single executable file. The device is shipped with the latest firmware version already installed.

- Externally powered via any powered USB port using a standard USB cable (included). A powered USB port is available on most DVR units. Otherwise, any standard USB charger may be used instead, as long as it provides 5 Volts. When properly powered, the status LED (inside the Schmartz light bulb) will be lit solid. The LED blinks with each IR command received.

- Does not need to be located with the PS3. It just needs to be in Bluetooth range of the PS3 (30 feet).

- External IR code input compatible with all IR and RF repeaters. All you need is a cable with 3.5 mm mono plugs at each end (not included), connected to the PS3IR-500 (IR input) and the repeater.

- A USB cable for powering the device is included in the kit.

- FCC and Industry Canada certified, and complies with European Union CE standards.

 "Literally Perfect" 2009-11-16
By John Orleans (Chicago, IL USA)
The PS3IR-500 ships in a well-padded box with just a USB cable and 4x6 instruction card. First, it's so refreshing that a manufacturer actually includes the required $2 cable rather than make you do another shopping run... As for the instructions, I'd say they could have gotten by with a 3x5. Out of the box, just plug the unit into ANY powered USB port (NOT your PS3) and follow the two-step process. Within minutes, you'll be using your remote (I have a Harmony One) to stream Netflix movies or watch your favorite Blu-Ray movie.

As an engineer, I appreciate good design and am pretty intolerant of poor design. As furious as I was with Sony for not releasing the new PS3 with IR support, I am completely contented by this Schmartz doodad.

If you have a PS3 and want to use your Harmony or PS2-supported remote, THIS is the one to get. Stop looking and just press "Add to Cart" now.

"Perfect Companion to the PS3" 2009-08-09
By Lost My Mind (California, United States)
For Home Theater enthusiasts or the truly lazy among us, the PS3IR-500 will finally allow you to integrate the PS3 with your universal remote. The PS3IR replicates the full set of buttons on the Sony PS3 Remote and can be used to turn the system on, off, and access the "PS3" button.

The primary difference between this device and cheaper USB adapters is that it can be used to turn the system on and off. The main difference between this and the Logitech version is that the PS3IR can function with other brands of remotes.

A couple of things to note:

1. You need a USB port on something other than your PS3, such as a DVR, Tivo, cable box, etc. This is how it gets power.

2. If you don't have a USB port, you'll need a USB hub or adapter. An extra iPhone adapter works well too.

3. If you want to use the direct connection, you'll need to purchase a 1/8" MONO male-to-male cable. You will also have to go to their website and download the configuration utility to change "modes".

Compared to the PS3IR-1000, this unit is missing a few features. Among them is a way to check if the PS3 is already on. That way, if you hit "off" when the PS3 is already off, it won't try to turn it on. Some potentially useful features, but not critical. I don't think it's worth the extra money.

 "Works perfectly!" 2009-07-29

My Playstation 3 was the only device I could not control from my Harmony 890, so I went looking for a IR->bluetooth converter for it. Only some of them have the ability to turn the PS3 on/off, the Schmartz is one of them, at a damn good price, so I went for it. I couldn't be happier! It literally Just Worked - on the PS3 I specified I wanted to add a new remote, then turned on the PS3IR-500, and the two bluetooth paired in about 10 seconds. Then I told my Harmony software that I had a PS3IR-500, updated the remote, and I was good to go. I can navigate through menus, play music/movies/browse the web...it all Just Works.

The Schmartz is powered via USB cable, so I plugged it into the useless USB port on my comcast box which we always leave on (it turns itself on to record shows but doesn't turn itself off, so I just set up the Harmony to never turn it off). So just keep in mind if you want to use this you need something that can power a USB device all the time...can't use the PS3 to power it, as when it's off, it provides no power to the USB ports. If you don't have something that can do this, I'm sure you can find a simple/cheap usb power adaptor.
